Konchesky set for Anfield medical.

Liverpool are believed to be close to finalising a deal in the region of £4million fee which will see Fulham’s left back Paul Konchesky arrive at Anfield.

Manager Roy Hodgson has been a long term admirer of his former player and speculation has been rife in recent weeks that the one time England International would be the next player to arrive in the present transfer window. Hodgson had given an assurance to Fulham fans on his exit that he would not be making an immediate return to raid his former squad but it seems an agreement has been reached between the two sides.

Fulham, who have just completed a £2.25m deal to bring in another Liverpool target, PSV Eindhoven defender Carlos Salcido, are also believed to have enquired about the availability of Liverpoool youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic as part of the deal.

Konchesky is expected to complete a medical at Melwood over the weekend as Liverpool look to try and bring in a few players over the next 4 days to bolster a depleted squad that has seen Yossi Benayoun, Alberto Aquilani, Diego Cavalieri, Albert Riera & Krisztián Németh move on to pastures new. Javier Mascherano is expected to be added to that list in the next 48hrs as he looks to complete his Barcelona switch.
