Liverpool snap up Portugal international to replace Mascherano.

Roy Hodgson has wasted no time in replacing Javier Mascherano at Liverpool by signing FC Porto midfielder Raul Meireles.

The Portugal international is renowned for his passing ability and arrives at Anfield on the back of an impressive showi
ng at this summer's World Cup, with Liverpool understood to have agreed a deal worth £10.7million to secure his services.

Meireles, 27, was a recent target of Manchester United but will replace the outgoing Mascherano at the heart of the Reds' midfield after the Argentina captain was given permission to discuss personal terms after both clubs reached an agreement.

Also signing in at Anfield will be Paul Konchesky who is expected to finalise his £4million move in the next 48 hours, with Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic both set to join Fulham as part of the deal.

Upcoming youngster Dani Pacheco is set to be handed an extended deal by Liverpool whilst fellow Spaniard Daniel Ayala will join Championship side Hull City on a season-long loan.
