Chris Brunt has warned Albion to write off Fernando Torres at their peril.
The Liverpool striker has struggled with fitness and form in recent months, as shown by his underwhelming displays for Spain during the World Cup two months ago.
But Brunt says Albion must still treat Torres with the utmost respect if he faces the Baggies in tomorrow’s game at Anfield.
And the Albion man recalled the last time they faced an under-performing Liverpool striker, back in 2008.
“You can’t underestimate Torres,” said the Northern Ireland winger.
“You can say someone is not playing well then they can come and bite you where it hurts.
“It happened last time. We went to Liverpool and told that Robbie Keane couldn’t score goals yet he got a couple against us just before half-time.
“That killed us in a game where up until that point we weren’t actually playing that badly.
“Torres is a world-class player and has proved that before.
“He will get his fitness back quickly and there’s no way we will underestimate him.”
Brunt is confident Albion can produce a decent performance against Liverpool.
“It’s going to be a tough game for Liverpool because they’ll have had three games in less than a week but they’ve got some fantastic players and Anfield is a tough place,” he added.
“We did okay there last time for the first half an hour so we need to keep it tight for as long as we can. Doing that will maybe give them a few problems and get them frustrated.”
