Arsenal will step up their chase for Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina during the winter transfer window.

Almunia gave away a soft goal as Arsenal slumped to a home defeat against West Brom yesterday at the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard's mistake served to highlight Arsenal's continued need for a new goalkeeper with both Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski both error-prone.

Arsenal are thought to have made a £15million bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina over the summer, which the Anfield club rejected.

However, the News of the World reports that the Gunners will make Liverpool another offer for 28-year-old Reina in January. With Liverpool enduring a poor start to the season, Reina may seize the opportunity to move to a club challenging for honours if the situation doesn't improve at Anfield.

Liverpool's dire financial situation also means that the club may not be in a position to reject a reasonable offer for its top players.
