Fans cannot be criticised - Hodgson

Liverpool supporters maintained their campaign against the club's financial predicatment with a highly visual and noisy post-match demonstration.

Estimates suggest 10,000 Reds fans stayed behind after the 2-2 draw with Sunderland to show their displeasure at the current ownership structure and suggestions that Tom Hicks is seeking to find sufficient finance to settle debts with the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Unless they grant an extension RBS require a settlement of approximately £280 million by mid-October rather than the first week of the month as initially thought.

Roy Hodgson has expressed sympathy with the fans and reasserted his desire to see the situation resolved in the Liverpool FC's best interests.

The manager had courted dismay from followers after labelling the protests and sit in "unhelpful" prior to the weekend.

"I don't think anybody at the club wants anything but a solution to the ownership problem," he said.

"The fans here are very passionate and care an awful lot about this football club.

"You cannot criticise them for showing their displeasure about the situation, because like ourselves they want to see the club moving forward and not sort of stuck with owners who are trying to sell the club."
