Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes that the poor form shown so far this season by striker Fernando Torres is merely a blip and the Spaniard will be back to his best soon.
Sunderland are the visitors to Anfield this weekend and Johnson would not be surprised if the Spaniard rediscovered his scoring touch against the Black Cats.
"We are very confident, and Fernando is too, that he will be back to his best very soon and hopefully we can give him a few chances on Saturday," Johnson told the club's official website.
"Everyone knows what Fernando can do and we always have great confidence in him to score goals for us.
"Fernando is rarely quiet during a game but if he is he won't be for long. Look at last Sunday - he won us the penalty and then the free-kick."
Johnson also believes that the Reds will soon start to climb the Premier League table. They currently lie in 16th place.
"We have played a lot of tough games against some of our rivals," he stressed.
"We got a point against Arsenal with 10 men which, although it was a great result, I thought we were really unlucky not to win the game.
"We have also played City and United so we have had a lot of big clashes already. Everybody is beating everybody, so I think it looks actually worse than it is at the moment."
With back-to-back home games against Sunderland and Blackpool, Johnson is targetting six points.
"We need to win both those games," he added.
"We are at home and we need to make the advantage count and then things will start to look a lot different."
Steve Bruce's Black Cats are no pushovers though, and in Darren Bent they possess a striker who has already netted five times this season. Johnson is well aware of the threat his England team-mate poses to opposition defences.
"He's a big threat, probably their biggest to us to be honest," he stated.
"Wherever he has been he has always scored goals. He does what he does best and he is a goalscorer.
"Like most strikers they can be quiet for 80 minutes then come up with a goal like he did against Arsenal last week.
"For me he has been one of the most underrated strikers around for a long time. I remember when Charlton signed him years ago for £2 million and it was one of the best buys ever. I think he's a great player.
"They also have their record signing Asamoah Gyan who played in the World Cup. He looked decent in South Africa and I'm sure he will be a good player for them."
The Reds right-back scored himself against Sunderland last season though and would like to repeat the feat on Saturday.
"I remember scoring and it was a nice feeling. Hopefully I can do the same on Saturday," he said.
"I like to get a few goals for the team. The first few games are always difficult to get into in terms of fitness levels but I'm feeling good so I can't complain."
