Liverpool are on the verge of signing Paul Konchesky to end their search for a left-back, according to Skysports.

The Reds have been linked with a number of Fulham stars ever since Roy Hodgson swapped Craven Cottage for Anfield.

And, with Emiliano Insua being touted around to potential suitors, a left-back has always looked the most likely – with Konchesky a favourite of the new Liverpool boss.

The fee will be relatively cheap – standing a £3.5 million – and will keep up Hodgson’s philosophy of bringing English players to Merseyside.

The deal will prompt the Cottagers manager Mark Hughes to go for a previous Liverpool target, in Carlos Salcido to replace the former West Ham defender.

Hughes would rather keep hold of Konchesky but he has already made it clear he wishes to speak with Hodgson and move to Champions League chasing Liverpool.

Other Fulham players that have been linked with a move to Anfield include Danny Murphy, who has played there before, Brede Hangeland and Zoltan Gera.
