Roy Hodgson pleased to welcome Raul Meireles to Liverpool & hints that new striker is coming.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is delighted to have added Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles to his squad and is hopeful that more new faces will be added by the time the transfer slams shut.

Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky would seem about to join the Reds at any moment, whilst Hodgson is also believed to be close to adding a striker to his playing staff as well.

"We’re very pleased to have Raul," Hodgson told reporters.

"We’ve lost some quality midfield players with Yossi Benayoun, Albert Riera and Javier Mascherano going and Alberto Aquilani heading out on loan, so it’s very good to bring in Christian Poulsen and now Raul. They are two quality players to boost our squad.

"It was much needed because otherwise we would be short of players in that area.

"I hope the deal to sign Paul [Konchesky] will be done in the next couple of days. One of our talented young players who Fulham have fancied for a while is going in the other direction.

"That’s holding it up slightly because he has to have a medical but I’m hoping it’s just a technical hitch and Paul will be signed."

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Swedish striker Ola Toivonen, but Hodgson confirmed that such a deal was not going to take place.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas would also not be leaving Anfield, Hodgson revealed.

“We’d like another striker, we’ve said that all along and there’s no point me denying it,” he added.

“But we still haven’t found the right man and time is running out for us. He [Toivonen] is a good player but he’s not the profile I’m looking for.

"If someone offers us £20 million for Lucas and he wants to go we will consider it,” he added.

“But it’s a bit late in the day. I’m not looking to get rid of players.

"I’d quite happily add one as we have room in our squad. I’m not looking to move anyone else out because anybody who moves now is unlikely to be replaced because the window is closing."
