Liverpool are considering making a move for Shaun Wright-Phillips, reports in today's media suggest.
According to The Sun, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be handed £25 million to spend in January and has earmarked Wright-Phillips as a potential target.
However, the Anfield boss is allegedly only prepared to part with £5 million to land the Manchester City winger, who is stalling over a new contract after sliding down the pecking order at Eastlands.
Hodgson has been linked with a number of targets as he looks to start a rebuilding job at Anfield in January under new Liverpool owners NESV. Aston Villa ace Ashley Young and Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo are just two names to have been mentioned regarding New Year transfers to Merseyside as Hodgson targets attack-minded players to improve his squad.
NESV and Hodgson have outlined their vision to compete in the transfer market with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona and are likely to have to splash the cash if they are to convince Liverpool supporters that they mean business.
